इन्द्रियाणां हि चरतां यन्मनोऽनुविधीयते। तदस्य हरति प्रज्ञां वायुर्नावमिवाम्भसि।।

Transliteration in English

indriyāṇāṁ hi charatāṁ yan mano ’nuvidhīyate tadasya harati prajñāṁ vāyur nāvam ivāmbhasi

इन्द्रियाणां हि चरतां यन्-मनो-अनुविधीयते तदस्य हरति प्रज्ञां वायुर्-नाव-मिवाम्भ-असि

Word Meaning

indriyāṇām—of the senses; hi—indeed; charatām—roaming; yat—which; manaḥ—the mind; anuvidhīyate—becomes constantly engaged; tat—that; asya—of that; harati—carries away; prajñām—intellect; vāyuḥ—wind; nāvam—boat; iva—as; ambhasi—on the water

शब्दार्थ

इन्द्रियाणाम् – इन्द्रियों के; हि – निश्चय ही; चरताम् – विचरण करते हुए; यत् – जिसके साथ; मनः – मन; अनुविधीयते – निरन्तर लगा रहता है; तत् – वह; अस्य – इसकी; हरति – हर लेती है; प्रज्ञाम् – बुद्धि को; वायुः – वायु; नावम् – नाव को; इव – जैसे; अभ्यसि – जल में |

Translation

As a strong wind sweeps away a boat on the water, even one of the roaming senses on which the mind focuses can carry away a man’s intelligence.

अनुवाद

जिस प्रकार पानी में तैरती नाव को प्रचण्ड वायु दूर बहा ले जाती है उसी प्रकार विचरणशील इन्द्रियों में से कोई एक जिस पर मन निरन्तर लगा रहता है, मनुष्य की बुद्धि को हर लेती है |

Unless all of the senses are engaged in the service of the Lord, even one of them engaged in sense gratification can deviate the devotee from the path of transcendental advancement. As mentioned in the life of Mahārāja Ambarīṣa, all of the senses must be engaged in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, for that is the correct technique for controlling the mind.

अभयचरणारविंद भक्तिवेदांत स्वामी श्रील प्रभुपाद द्वारा व्याख्या

यदि समस्त इन्द्रियाँ भगवान् की सेवा में न लगी रहें और यदि इनमें से एक भी अपनी तृप्ति में लगी रहती है, तो वह भक्त को दिव्य प्रगति-पथ से विपथ कर सकती है | जैसा कि महाराज अम्बरीष के जीवन में बताया गया है, समस्त इन्द्रियों को कृष्णभावनामृत में लगा रहना चाहिए क्योंकि मन को वश में करने की यही सही एवं सरल विधि है |

A person without control on the senses, destroy their mind by wandering in the whirlwind of desires. Therefore, if a person wants a meaningful life, they should make constant efforts to keep their senses under his control.

इन्द्रियों पर नियन्त्रण न रखने वाला व्यक्ति वासनाओं के बवंडर में भटक कर अपने मन को नष्ट कर देता है। इसलिए यदि कोई व्यक्ति एक सार्थक जीवन चाहता है, तो उसे अपनी इंद्रियों को अपने नियंत्रण में रखने के लिए निरंतर प्रयास करना चाहिए।
