नेहाभिक्रमनाशोऽस्ति प्रत्यवायो न विद्यते। स्वल्पमप्यस्य धर्मस्य त्रायते महतो भयात्।।

Translation

In this endeavor there is no loss or diminution, and a little advancement on this path can protect one from the most dangerous type of fear.

अनुवाद

इस प्रयास में न तो हानि होती है न ही ह्रास अपितु इस पथ पर की गई अल्प प्रगति भी महान भय से रक्षा कर सकती है |

Translation

Those who are on this path are resolute in purpose, and their aim is one. O beloved child of the Kurus, the intelligence of those who are irresolute is many-branched.

यामिमां पुष्पितां वाचं प्रवदन्त्यविपश्चितः । वेदवादरताः पार्थ नान्यदस्तीति वादिनः ॥ ४२ ॥ कामात्मानः स्वर्गपरा जन्मकर्मफलप्रदाम् । क्रियाविशेषबहुलां भोगैश्वर्यगतिं प्रति ॥ ४३ ॥

Translation

Men of small knowledge are very much attached to the flowery words of the Vedas, which recommend various fruitive activities for elevation to heavenly planets, resultant good birth, power, and so forth. Being desirous of sense gratification and opulent life, they say that there is nothing more than this.

अनुवाद

अल्पज्ञानी मनुष्य वेदों के उन अलंकारिक शब्दों के प्रति अत्यधिक आसक्त रहते हैं, जो स्वर्ग की प्राप्ति, अच्छे जन्म, शक्ति इत्यादि के लिए विविध सकाम कर्म करने की संस्तुति करते हैं | इन्द्रियतृप्ति तथा ऐश्र्वर्यमय जीवन की अभिलाषा के कारण वे कहते हैं कि इससे बढ़कर और कुछ नहीं है |

Translation

In the minds of those who are too attached to sense enjoyment and material opulence, and who are bewildered by such things, the resolute determination for devotional service to the Supreme Lord does not take place.

त्रैगुण्यविषया वेदा निस्त्रैगुण्यो भवार्जुन। निर्द्वन्द्वो नित्यसत्त्वस्थो निर्योगक्षेम आत्मवान्।।

Translation

The Vedas deal mainly with the subject of the three modes of material nature. O Arjuna, become transcendental to these three modes. Be free from all dualities and from all anxieties for gain and safety, and be established in the self.

वेदों में मुख्यतया प्रकृति के तीनों गुणों का वर्णन हुआ है | हे अर्जुन! इन तीनों गुणों से ऊपर उठो | समस्त द्वैतों और लाभ तथा सुरक्षा की सारी चिन्ताओं से मुक्त होकर आत्म-परायण बनो |

यावानर्थ उदपाने सर्वतः संप्लुतोदके। तावान्सर्वेषु वेदेषु ब्राह्मणस्य विजानतः।।

Translation

All purposes served by a small well can at once be served by a great reservoir of water. Similarly, all the purposes of the Vedas can be served to one who knows the purpose behind them.

एक छोटे से कूप का सारा कार्य एक विशाल जलाशय से तुरन्त पूरा हो जाता है | इसी प्रकार वेदों के आन्तरिक तात्पर्य जानने वाले को उनके सारे प्रयोजन सिद्ध हो जाते हैं |

Translation

You have a right to perform your prescribed duty, but you are not entitled to the fruits of action. Never consider yourself the cause of the results of your activities, and never be attached to not doing your duty.

तुम्हें अपने कर्म (कर्तव्य) करने का अधिकार है, किन्तु कर्म के फलों के तुम अधिकारी नहीं हो | तुम न तो कभी अपने आपको अपने कर्मों के फलों का कारण मानो, न ही कर्म न करने में कभी आसक्त होओ |

Perform your duty equipoised, O Arjuna, abandoning all attachment to success or failure. Such equanimity is called yoga.

A man engaged in devotional service rids himself of both good and bad reactions even in this life. Therefore strive for yoga, which is the art of all work.

इस तरह भगवद्भक्ति में लगे रहकर बड़े-बड़े ऋषि, मुनि अथवा भक्तगण अपने आपको इस भौतिक संसार में कर्म के फलों से मुक्त कर लेते हैं | इस प्रकार वे जन्म-मृत्यु के चक्र से छूट जाते हैं और भगवान् के पास जाकर उस अवस्था को प्राप्त करते हैं, जो समस्त दुखों से परे है |
